Quick Overview

With the National Curriculum failing to recognise Drama as a subject in its own right at Key Stage 3, many teachers can feel a little in the dark when it comes to planning for their younger students. We prefer, however, to view this as a positive. The possibilities for planning are endless and lack of structured statutory guidance surely allow us to tackle this subject as creatively as we wish.

In this brand new booklet, our writers have created an entire half term's worth of planning for each of your key stage 3 year groups, focused entirely around the work of Bertolt Brecht. A fantastic resource to introduce the work of Brecht to your future GCSE and A-Level students.

Why not start with a bang and show your Key Stage 3 students just how fun, exciting and innovative the world of drama can be?

This A4 photocopiable booklet contains a scheme of work for each year group, with each scheme focusing upon a notable piece of Brecht's work:Year 7 tackle The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Year 8, Mother Courage and Year 9, The Threepenny Opera.

The book provides you with three complete schemes of work: one for Year 7, one for Year 8 and one for Year 9. The schemes are intended to last approximately one half term. Each scheme provides you with 6 lessons of approximately 1 hour duration, providing you with enough planning for a half term. If you follow the schemes across your Key stage 3 classes, students will embark upon GCSE Drama already understanding three Bertolt Brecht texts.

Guiding the students through Brecht's main theories and techniques, the schemes also introduce them to on and off-text work, key extracts from the specific plays and encourages them to foster interpretative and directorial skills when approaching a play text. This book provides your pupils with a fantastic foundation upon which they can build when embarking upon GCSE study.

You can choose to follow this scheme with or without Brecht's play texts.
