Suitable for any of the GCSE specifications it will allow you to teach the full play to your GCSE students. The photocopiable booklet of resources and teaching ideas will ensure that your students gain a comprehensive understanding of the play whether you are studying it for an exam, or want to explore the play from a practical perspective.


The resource pack is split in to the following five sections:

•Section A: Practical Suggestions for Exploring the Play
This section will give you a wealth of teaching ideas to help teach this play from a totally practical perspective. It outlines numerous rehearsal games and activities such as still images, improvisations, off-text work, hot-seating, conscience corridor, thought- tracking, tableaux and vocal games all of which offer a fun, hands-on alternative to simply sitting and reading the script aloud from start to finish. Perfect if you want to plan and deliver a set of practical workshops with your students when exploring this text.

•Section B: Teaching the Play’s Social, Cultural and Historical Context
This section contains a wealth of photocopiable resources that will provide students with an overview of the play’s most important contextual factors. The resources will ensure that students to gain a detailed appreciation of the political, social, cultural and historical context surrounding this play.

•Section C: Teaching Characterisation
The booklet contains an array of resources to help your students explore the play’s main characters. •Section D: Influenntial Practitioners
The pack also contains two practical projects for students to follow that will allow them to look at the play in terms of famous practitioners' ideas and theories. Students will be encouraged to look at the play from both a Brechtian perspective and using the ideas of Augusto Boal.

•Section E: Working With Specific Moments
The final section explores key moments from the play in great detail. It takes five key extracts from across the play and provides students with directorial ideas to experiment with, numerous original ideas for performance and many directorial, design and acting interpretations to ensure students adopt a complete realisation of this text in performance. It looks at applying performance elements such as voice, timing, movement, spatial positioning etc. to these key parts of the play. Students can then transfer their understanding to the rest of the text. This section is especially useful if students have to write an exam response when studying this play, or have to make notes about key moments in the play and their performance ideas.
